There are just two weeks left to see Fashion in the Mirror:
Self-Reflection in Fashion Photography and Danny Treacy:
Them at The Photographers' Gallery, which ends on Sunday 14
September 2008.
Over the last six weeks these fascinating insights into the
world of photography and fashion has attracted over 87,000
visitors. The exhibitions are open seven days a week and
admission is free.
Featuring the work of twenty-one international
photographers, including the leading names of Mario Testino,
Nick Knight, Helmut Newton, Terence Donovan and Juergen
Teller, Fashion in the Mirror deconstructs the image-making
process and lays bare the basic principles of the fashion
photograph.
Brett Rogers, Director, comments; 'This year has seen an
unprecedented awareness
of the relationship between fashion and the visual arts, in
particular the role of photography.
The success of this exhibition reflects a broader European
interest in the re-emergence of fashion photography as
reflected by the theme of this year's prestigious Arles
Photography Festival (curated by Christian Lacroix), the
solo exhibition of Tim Walker's lyrical fashion photography
at the Design Museum London and Richard Avedon's
retrospective touring Europe. I am delighted that we have
received so many visitors to what is a unique insight into
the fashion world. Fashion in the Mirror marks the first of
what will now be an annual showcasing of fashion photography
at The Photographers' Gallery.'
Fashion in the Mirror: Self-Reflection in Fashion
Photography is co-curated by Michel Mallard and Raphaëlle
Stopin, organisers of the annual International Fashion and
Photography Festival in Hyères, France.
The twenty-one photographers in Fashion in the Mirror are:

1923 - 2004); Terence Donovan (UK, 1936 - 1996); Steven
Klein (US, b. 1962); William Klein (US, b.1928); Nick Knight
(UK, b.1958); Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin (The
Netherlands, b.1963 & b.1961); Saul Leiter (US, b.1923);
Steven Meisel (US, b. 1954); Helmut Newton (Germany, 1920 -
2004); Norman Parkinson (UK, 1913 - 1990); Harri Peccinotti
(UK, b.1938); Irving Penn (US, b. 1917); John Rawlings (US,
1912 - 1970); Bob Richardson (US, 1928 - 2005); Melvin
Sokolsky (US, b.1933); Bert Stern (US, b. 1929); Juergen
Teller (Germany, b. 1964); Mario Testino (Peru, b.1954);
Jonathan de Villiers (UK, b.1968); and Tim Walker (UK,
b.1970).
Danny Treacy: Them demonstrates the Gallery's commitment to
supporting new talent and showing contemporary British
photography.
