Australian astrophysicist Paul Bourke has
constructed what must be the only stereo-
scope made from a pair of iPod photos.
The stereoscope is an Edwardian inven-
tion that conjures a 3d image from two
photographs of the same
scene taken from slightly
dierent angles. When
each image is presented to
a dierent eye, the brain
fuses them into a 3d scene:
it's the principle of ste-
reo vision. Bourke's iPod
photo stereoscope uses
iPods instead of photo-
graphs to present images
to each eye. Naturally, he
has to take two slightly skewed images
of a scene with a digital camera and be
sure to load the correct image onto the
correct iPod.

Paul Bourke updated an antique
stereoscope with a pair of iPod
photos.
