A gang of British identity thieves used an iPod to store digital copies
of the documents they needed to buy luxury cars fraudulently, the bbc
reported in 2004. False documents and phony identities were used to
buy cars under assumed names that were later sold for "pure profit,"
the bbc said. Apparently, the thieves thought the police wouldn't find
the documents if
they were stored
on an iPod. But the scam came undone when a police ocer noticed
expensive cars parked at a low-income housing project in London.
When police raided a flat there several weeks later, they found the
incriminating evidence on the iPod. The gang was sentenced to jail. A
police spokesman said they "ended up facing the music."
