Book: The Google Way
Bernard Girard, The Google Way, No Starch Press
There are now a lot of books about Google around and no wonder -
success interests people and beyond that the players and what they’ve
done and more interestingly how they’ve done it, make good stories.
But this isn’t just another take on the main events, its sub-title
‘How one company is revolutionizing management as we know it’ tells
us this is a business oriented book, and as such, will interest
would-be entrepreneurs along with management students.
The author looks through many aspects of Google’s operation
including recruitment, internal judging, innovation, teams,
coordination, and winds up by asking the question of whether Google
has lessons to teach.
This might all sound a bit dry and uninteresting but Girard sprinkles
interesting statistics throughout and manages to give the whole thing
some life. Entrepreneurs should be especially interested as the Google
boys have set a very useful example and have proved that thinking
differently can work very well.
