Jane's Addiction, Strays
CD, Capitol Perry's back, along with Dave Navarro, Mr P and new bassist Chris Chaney. There are some echoes all the way back to Ritual here but his is a thicker sort of mix and the wailing of guitar and voice is less relentless. There used to be a sense of danger in these parts that might have partly lessened through us now expecting Perry and Dave to live forever instead of being doubtful for next week. And partly the sense of danger was furthered by Dave Navarro's on the edge, off the wall guitar work as well as Perry Farrell's screaming vocals. These days things aren't more muted exactly but they are more measured. Still, this doesn't feel like a pension plan top up ripoff at all. It's good enough to buy for its own sake rather than just nostalgia. (thunderfinger)
