Quantic, The 5th Exotic
Tru Thoughts

Fresh from their success with Bonobo (now signed to Ninjatune), Brighton label Tru Thoughts come correct with this assured debut from Quantic. Swimming in similar waters to his former label-mate, Will Holland weaves perfect post-club atmospherics with warm, funky beats and fluid basslines. Hissing cymbals and crisp hi-hats tie this album together, and with some deft use of minor keys and lush production t hroughout, this is one of those albums that reveals more with each listen. On the basis of this evidence, and with a long-player due from new-signing Flevans, Tru Thoughts have obviously hit the good groove jackpot. (Jez, Essential Music, Brighton)
