Pictures of Elvis
A day of motorbike rides. The outfit wasn't quite as camp
then as it looks now as apparently US truck drivers got around
in this getup.
A still from the movie El Charro. Elvis considered his
film work to have been lousy but there was never any chance
that the producers would try and take him upmarket.
Elvis didn't take much time to graduate from greaser
rebel who shocked people with his movements and daring to sing
Black-American style songs to a Mr. Showbiz that brought in
dollars by the truckload. The man on the left is his
manager, "Colonel" Tom Parker.
During the Vietnam and Nixon times Elvis was anxious
to be seen on the side of law and order. Middle-class
counterculture kids didn't like him anyway but he still had
a strong fan base. This picture shows Elvis with the
"Memphis Mafia" all holding their Sheriff's badges.
Towards the end of his life, Elvis put on a lot of weight,
possibly as a result of the pills he was being given to
help him cope with his existence. After his death, he was found
to have had a large cocktail of drugs in his system but the
coroner did not say that he died of a drug overdose.
