Peter Layton: Installation of 36 blown glass hearts, 21 felt jackets and optical fibber lights, 2004, 77 x 77 X 55 cm. The lights in the glass hearts have a slow, soothing pulse.
"Battery" is a part of a series entitled "Matters of the Heart" , and stems from the insight that between birth and death there are only precious present moments encompassing love, joy, passion, strength, courage, wisdom, humour, generosity, creativity, freedom-and of course, their opposites. In squandering these we are obliged to live with the consequences.
