various, Gillian Weir plays The Lawrence Phelps Organ of Hexham Abbey, Northumberland www.priory.org.uk This magnificent organ was put into the Abbey to celebrate it's 1300th anniversary. The old organ had become unrepairable and the opportunity was taken to engage Lawrence Phelps to build a new one. That the building was a success can be clearly heard on this CD. Dame Gillian Weir plays an assortment here to show the instrument off. We have Attaignant, J.S. Bach, Schnizer, Mozart, Hildemuth and Francaix. The result, as Gramphone said, is 'An irrestible combination of great music, great playing and a spectacular instrument'. (Count K)Back to top Bookmark:
