Mozart, Le Nozze di Figaro
Ezio Pinza, Bidu Sayao et alia, conducted by Paul Breisach, Metropolitan Opera 1943
Guild Historical distributed by Priory in the UK
Pop music producers know the psychology of hearing well. Get as much level as you can on things because the more you have the more people think it sounds better. This is an introduction to the fact that there isn't much level on these recordings but that aside, the fact that we have them at all is a bit of modern magic. So, OK, there isn't much top and there isn't much bottom either but the voices are there and one can certainly appreciate Ezio Pinza and Bidu Sayao, who were much lauded in their own time.
This recording was chosen from a variety of recordings as being the best available example of these famous singers. Opera completists should definately have it and so should voice students. The rest of us? We'll have it for historical interest but not for the sound quality.
